The year 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of KWNC
KWNC new campus has made significant improvements and innovations in facilities and equipment
The year 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC). To begin the celebration, KWNC held the 100th Anniversary Celebration Press Conference on the 17th of November at the conference hall in the Islands District Medical Complex Campus to announce a series of celebrations, future development and recruitment plans.
The President of KWNC, Van Iat Kio, announced a series of 15 celebrations, including "Events for alumni, students and faculty", "Public/Special events" and "Academic events". The events are opened to the College Council, Advisory board, current students and faculty, alumni from all over the world and the public. Over the past year, “KWNC 100th Anniversary Photography Exhibition”, “The Slogan Design Competition” and “History Culture Lectures of KWNC” have already been held to mark the beginning of the centennial celebration. The "100th Anniversary Concert" will be held in the Cultural Center on the 20th of November. Students, members of faculty and alumni will form a choir of 100 people and jointly perform with the Macao Philharmonic Orchestra, in order to present our best wishes for the 100th anniversary of KWNC. President Van made announcement of a number of big events in 2023, including “ The 17th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities”, “Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Alumni Day”, and “ The Inauguration Ceremony & Open Day of Islands District Medical Complex Campus”. KWNC welcomes the participation of industrial partners, alumni from all over the world and the public. Moreover, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will launch “KWNC 100th Anniversary commemorative stamp album” in next November.
The Chair of the College Council, Mr. Lau Veng Seng, introduced the use of the new campus and the future plan of KWNC, Mr. Lau noted that the new campus has made significant improvements and innovations in facilities and equipment, including: 1. The establishment of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination Center (OSCE), the center is built based on international standards of medical examination rooms, with the purpose of standardizing the assessment process and criteria; the center also serves as a high-standard training or examination venue for continuing professional development of various medical professionals in Macao; 2. The optimization of teaching equipment of the nursing laboratory; the nursing laboratory is designed according to various clinical situations, the partition and configuration are improved, the Simulated Infectious Disease Ward, Simulated ICU and VR nursing laboratory are added, allowing students to learn in the environment close to clinical reality; 3. The establishment of the first nursing and comprehensive health experience center in Macao, "Wynn Care Life Journey Experience Pavilion ", sponsored by the Wynn Care Foundation. The Experience Pavilion presents the teaching and research achievements of KWNC, and offers an experiential learning space for children, teenagers, adults and older adults to conduct life education. KWNC estimates the Pavilion will complete early next year. In the future, the Pavilion will not only provide professional education for college students, but will also open to the public to promote comprehensive health and healthy living. Wynn Care Foundation has fully supported the construction of the Experience Pavilion, and together with KWNC, the two organizations endeavor to build collaboration between living and learning, and further support the sustainable development of education, charitable work and community activities, benefiting the residents of Macao and committing to corporate responsibility.
In response to the urgent demand for nurses and the relocation of KWNC to a comprehensive teaching building, the number of programs and admissions will be gradually increased. President Van noted, the number of admissions of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program has been increased from 120 to 180, with about 170 freshmen entering the College this year. KWNC is now recruiting students for 2023 and the College has already received an overwhelming number of recommended students from local secondary schools and is in the process of initial recruitment. Open admission is scheduled for January next year, prospective high school graduates and those interested in joining nursing are welcome to apply. Applicants who already hold a bachelor or above degree could apply for exemption of written admission exam. In addition, KWNC is actively involved in talent development in the Greater Bay Area, the College has developed a 2+2 joint BSN program between Guangdong and Macao, and a number of joint international Master of Nursing programs. In the coming year, the College will go through an institutional and program accreditation as required by the Macao SAR Government, and the College will continue to develop higher education programs in pursuing the vision of expanding and nurturing nursing professional education and continuing professional development.
