Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) hosted ‘Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau Islands District Medical Complex Campus Launching and Ho Cheng-Kai Memorial Library Opening Ceremony’ on 25th March.
The ceremonies were to honour Mr Ho Yin and his family for their contribution to KWNC nursing education, while providing education in the new campus is the fresh starting point for the second century of the College.
KWNC Open Day is also held on the same day. The general public and secondary school students visited the new campus and learnt about KWNC study environment, numerous nursing and teaching facilities.
The College received generous support from Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., and various associations from the society. The guests who officiated the ceremonies include Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr Ho Hau Wah, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms Ao Ieong U, Liaison Office Deputy Director Ms Yan Zhichan, President of Board of Directors of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, Chair of KWNC College Council Mr Lau Veng Seng, Kiang Wu Hospital Director Ms Ung Pui Kun, KWNC President Ms Van Iat Kio, etc.
The Macao SAR Government has strongly supported Kiang Wu Charitable Association and KWNC for training nursing talents. The College has relocated smoothly to the Islands District Medical Complex Campus and it is in full operation. Its usable area is 2.3 times larger than the original College Campuses. Therefore, the quality and quantity of teaching and learning facilities have been significantly enhanced. Moreover, a modern nursing teaching environment has been created, with various resources optimised in the nursing laboratories, and a standardised Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre has been built.
With the Wynn Care Foundation sponsorship, the first ‘Life Journey Experience Pavilion’ is created in Macao for professional demonstration of nursing and Comprehensive Health.
Mr Lau Veng Seng mentioned that in the 100 years since the establishment of the College, graduates have served Macao and the world with the spirit of fraternity and professional skills, and they have gained wide recognition and appreciation.
To honour Mr Ho Yin who donated to build the original campus building ‘Cheng-Kai Memorial Hall’ which enabled the cultivation of numerous nursing professionals, with the approval of Mr Ho Hau Wah, Kiang Wu Charitable Association named the new campus library as ‘Ho Cheng-Kai Memorial Library’, in order to carry forward the spirit of Ho’s family regarding charity and support for nursing education.
Mr Lau Veng Seng also said that last month, KWNC completed a series of accreditations and reviews. The results of the evaluations have provided essential support for the College to continuously improve the level and quality of its courses.
KWNC will always accomplish the mission of educating students, continue to reform and innovate in the fields of nursing, gerontology and health, in order to nurture more high-quality professionals that satisfy the needs of Macao and the nation.
Ms Ao Ieong U praised that for the past century, KWNC has been cultivating numerous nursing professionals who strive for competence and integrity and they are determined to be nursing professionals. In recent years, the College has developed actively, at the same time KWNC operational standard and teaching quality continued to raise.
She expressed gratitude to KWNC teachers and students especially for their contribution during the epidemic. Whether it was the Macao universal nucleic acid test, nucleic acid test for key groups, or the volunteer work for yellow code or red code zones, they responded enthusiastically and provided support.
Especially during the epidemic at the end of last year, KWNC nursing students actively participated in supporting the operation of the Community Treatment Centre (Macau Dome) and demonstrated the College’s educational philosophy of ‘From Personhood to Benevolence’ to the society with practical actions.
The opening of the new Islands District Medical Complex Campus is a crucial milestone in the development of KWNC. Ms Ao Ieong U also expressed her best wishes to the College for starting its second century, hoping that KWNC can better utilise current ideal conditions, upgraded resources and facilities, optimise the functions of the new campus, and train more nursing professionals for Macao.
