Lei Cheok Ieong, student from Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) together with his teammates, Kuong Chi Hin and Chin Ka Hou, represented the Macao SAR Government to participate in the ‘17th World Wushu Championships’ in Brasilia, and won the gold medal in Men's Three-Person Sparring, which is the only gold medal of the World Wushu Championships in this year for Macao. The Macao team returned home with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
The World Wushu Championships is the highest level of wushu competition in the world, and it is very meaningful to win gold medals in this arena. The Macao team had repeatedly missed out on gold medals at this year's event until the last day, when Lei, Kuong and Chin showed great strength in the Men's Three-Person Sparring event. As the second-to-last team among the 17 participating teams, facing the pressure of high scores from Indonesia and Malaysia, the Macao trio responded calmly and with a high level of tacit understanding and exquisite skills, they presented a strong, powerful and natural co-ordination of movements, which won the applause of the whole audience. At the end of the day, the three of them scored 9.620 points, the same score as Indonesia, and emerged victorious after the invalid point calculation, winning the first and only gold medal for Macao this year.
