Following an on-site assessment by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) on 21–22 November 2025, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) successfully secured re-accreditation for two existing programmes and gained accreditation for seven new programmes. All nine programmes now formally meet international standards. Having become the world’s first ADI-accredited dementia training provider in 2021, KWNC has once again passed rigorous scrutiny.
This accreditation encompasses the existing Certificate in Programme in Dementia Care Organiser (DCO) and Programme in Dementia Care Giver (DCG), alongside seven newly accredited certificate programmes: Cognitive Function Assessment, Cognitive Training, Ethics and Law in Dementia Care, Evidence-Based Practices and Latest Research in Dementia Care, Brain Health and Dementia Literacy, Advanced Training in Aged Care, and Assessment and Intervention for Language Disorders in Older Adults (in collaboration with Beijing Language and Culture University).
Vice-Presdient Ng Wa I stated: "Course design has consistently integrated the unique context of Macao and Chinese cultural regions. Through international standard accreditation, the programmes now align more closely with ADI's objectives and philosophy. On 20 November, KWNC and the Macau Alzheimer's Disease Association presented certificates to staff from Kiang Wu Hospital, Meng Fai Nursing Home, Centro I Chon da União Geral das Associações dos Moradores de Macau, Ká Hó Nursing Home, Lok I Elderly Day Centre, Praia Integrated Elderly Services Centre, Bodhi Integrated Elderly Services Centre, Salvation Army Ruixi Integrated Elderly Services Centre, and Instituto Canossiano Vila Madalena.
These bases provide students with authentic clinical training scenarios, extending internationally accredited programmes directly into care homes and communities. This enhances teaching quality and students' practical skills while assisting institutions in optimising dementia care services. It achieves the integration of teaching, research, and service delivery, collectively advancing the professionalisation of dementia care in Macau.
During the assessment period, Amalia Fonk-Utomo, Chair of the ADI Global Review Panel, and Reviewer Emily Ong conducted on-site inspections of two Dementia Teaching and Research Training Bases and the Faculty's teaching facilities. They held multiple meetings with Faculty management, teaching staff, programme teams, graduates, and dementia carers. They fully affirmed the college's outstanding performance in areas such as its ‘commitment to the sustainable development of dementia education’ and its ‘robust and reliable resource network.’
