On 17 January 2026, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) hosted its Open Day, attracting members of the public, secondary school students, parents and industry representatives. Through diverse formats including campus tours, programme consultations, and health-themed sessions, the event comprehensively showcased the college's educational achievements and societal contributions within nursing and health sciences, fostering an enthusiastic atmosphere.

Achieving Substantial Educational Outcomes and Establishing a Comprehensive Training System
In her address, President of KWNC, Van Iat Kio outlined that the college has established a complete talent cultivation system spanning bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the total number of students enrolled in higher education programmes approached 900, reflecting steady expansion in the College's scale of operations. This year has also seen the introduction of a new integrated bachelor's-master's degree programme. Following its relocation to new premises, the College has continued strengthening collaborations with mainland, Hong Kong, and local healthcare and social service institutions. It now operates 42 clinical training bases (27 in Macao and 15 overseas). Regarding teaching facilities, alongside the already operational and highly effective simulation laboratories and OSCE centre, this year will see the introduction of the V CAVE immersive virtual reality teaching system. This enables students to train within a highly interactive, three-dimensional virtual environment. An activity centre, meditation room, and PhD student offices have also recently been established, providing robust support for the comprehensive development of staff and students and for deepening academic pursuits.

Employment Outcomes Impressive, Professional Recognition High
The college's graduates demonstrate outstanding performance. Since the introduction of the local nursing qualification examination in 2022, the pass rate for graduates has approached 100%. Taking the 2024 cohort as an example, within six months of completing their graduation internship and obtaining their licence, nearly 80% had secured employment or received job offers. Under the CEPA II framework, Macao nursing undergraduates may directly apply for the nursing qualification examination in mainland China upon presenting their graduation certificates. Last year, the college's students participated for the first time, achieving an outstanding pass rate of approximately 99%. This fully reflects the national recognition of Macao's nursing education quality and opens broader opportunities for graduates to integrate into the nation's development landscape.

Leading International Accreditation and Significant Professional Development Achievements
The College continues to advance the internationalisation of its programmes. In November 2025, nine courses achieved accreditation from the Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), establishing the College as the world's first institution to receive both initial and re-accreditation for dementia care programmes. This milestone confirms the programmes' sustained position at the forefront of international standards. Furthermore, commissioned by the Labour Affairs Bureau, the College represents Macao SAR in the Health and Social Care category of the 48th WorldSkills Competition, with ten students currently advancing to the regional semi-finals. It has also become Macao's first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation ‘One Examination, Three Certificates’ skills examination centre (in elderly care), facilitating learners' acquisition of cross-regional qualifications.

Diverse Experiential Activities Receive Acclaim, Demonstrating Educational Strength
The Open Day featured multiple interactive sessions, allowing participants to personally experience simulated teaching facilities, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre, and the Life Journey Experience Pavilion. During the course consultation segment, the college's experienced teaching team addressed questions on further education and employment prospects, drawing numerous parents and students to linger. The ‘Healthy Ageing Special Session’ featured lectures and experiential activities centred on frailty prevention and dementia risk management, offering elderly attendees a platform for in-depth engagement in health education.

President Van Iat Kio emphasised that while technology can enhance nursing service delivery, the human touch in care ultimately requires human agency. The College remains committed to cultivating professionals with solid academic foundations, exceptional technical skills, and profound humanistic care. This prepares them to safeguard lives, serve society, and contribute to building a healthier Macao and Greater Bay Area.
