Organised by WorldSkills International, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the 48th WorldSkills Competition will be grandly held from 22 to 27 September 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). As the world’s highest-level and largest vocational skills competition, the event will bring together top young skilled talents from around the globe to compete on the same stage and showcase their expertise.

At this year’s competition, Macao will participate in the Health and Social Care skill competition for the first time. The Macao regional selection competition was jointly organised by the Labour Affairs Bureau and Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau(KWNC). For the first time, KWNC served as the representative institution for this skill competition and deployed a team of expert teachers to support the training courses and selection competitions at various stages. Zhuang Yulin, a 2022 cohort graduate of the College, stood out in the selection competition with her solid professional competence and steady performance. She will represent Macao, China in this skill competition, demonstrating the professional excellence of Macao’s young nursing talent on the international stage. Lecturer XIONG Dan of the College will also travel to Shanghai as an expert for the skill competition, participating in event coordination and assessment work.

To encourage the participating teacher and student and to unite the College community in support, the College held a Send-off Ceremony for the Macao Representative of the Health and Social Care Skill Competition at the 48th WorldSkills Competition on 9 September.

During her studies at the College, alumna Zhuang Yulin achieved outstanding results. She previously represented the College in the Shanghai International Nursing Skills Competition and won Second Prize in the Overseas Group. At the College’s Pinning and Cap Conferment Ceremony held in May this year, she delivered a speech as the representative of Year 4 students, sincerely expressing that the core value of nursing lies in people-centred care and companionship. In preparation for the upcoming WorldSkills Competition, the College has specially formed a professional teaching team to provide her with comprehensive and intensive training covering clinical skills, communication techniques, psychological support, and other aspects.

About the WorldSkills Competition
The WorldSkills Competition, organised biennially by WorldSkills International, is the highest-level global vocational skills competition and represents the world’s advanced standards in the development of vocational skills across various fields. The competition aims to enhance the vocational skills of young skilled workers and deepen cooperation and exchange among countries and regions. This year’s competition features as many as 64 skill competitions, covering six major sectors: manufacturing, transportation, construction, information and communication technology, creative arts, and services. It is expected to attract participants from more than 70 countries and regions, including over 1,400 competitors and more than 6,000 registered participants.

About the Health and Social Care Skill Competition
The Health and Social Care skill competition emphasises a service-user-centred approach, providing physical, psychological, social, family care, and rehabilitation services that meet health needs. Based on real-life cases, competitors are required to work with standardised patients and demonstrate their abilities in problem assessment, care planning, application of health knowledge, and effective communication. The competition focuses particularly on the delivery of humanistic care and the management skills needed to promote rehabilitation. It simulates real-life settings such as hospitals, residential care homes, day care centres, and home care environments. Competitors are required to communicate with standardised patients in English throughout the competition, comprehensively testing their nursing techniques, empathy, adaptability, and communication skills.
