To mark World Mental Health Day on October 10, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held the “Healing with Furry Friends: Animal-Assisted Therapy Carnival” on October 9, with support from the Education and Youth Development Bureau.
The event invited the Macau Animal Welfare Association to bring trained therapy dogs to campus. Through sharing sessions, close interaction, and group exchanges, over 100 teachers and students experienced the warmth and healing power of animal-assisted therapy. A total of 12 volunteers and 9 trained “Doctor Dogs” joined the event.
Students shared that the activity helped relieve academic stress and brought emotional comfort. It also deepened their understanding of the connection between animal-assisted therapy and nursing care. To further promote mental health awareness, the College has also launched a one-month interactive exhibition board titled “Caring for Mental Health” in the lobby. The exhibition includes practical mental health tips, interactive games, and prizes, encouraging teachers, students, and nursing colleagues to care for their mental well-being.
