Hu Huiling was honoured to be the ‘Star of Self-Reliance of Chinese University Students’ for the year of 2023-2024.

Recently, the results of the 2023-2024 'Star of Self-Reliance of Chinese University Students' were announced. Hu Huiling shone brilliantly among numerous other outstanding students, securing the prestigious title of 'Star of Self-Reliance of Chinese University Students'.
Hu Huiling's Inspiring Journey
Hu Huiling is currently in her third year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme at the prestigious Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau. In the past two years of study, she has always been diligent in her studies and achieved excellent results and has been awarded the 'Macao Higher Education Institutions Outstanding Student Scholarship - Outstanding Student Award' and 'Self-directed Student Award' for the second consecutive year.
Courageous Dream Chaser, Unafraid of Tough Times
Born in a rural village, Hu Huiling experienced the hard times of raising pigs and farming, and also witnessed the prosperity of the country. Despite her family's poverty, she never gave up her desire for knowledge and the pursuit of a better life. After graduating from junior high school and still living in a brick house, she enrolled in the Guangzhou Health School in 1997 with excellent grades to study in the four-year secondary school nursing programme. She took out a loan to fund her tuition fees and repaid the debt with her own efforts after graduation.
New Challenges in Macao
In 2001, after graduating from secondary school, she came to Macao by chance. However, the different cultural background and living environment made it difficult for her to adapt. Undeterred, she threw herself into learning traditional Chinese characters, computer operation, English and other skills, determined to become a well-rounded individual.
Continuous Self-Reliance
She was unable to practice nursing in Macao because her secondary nursing qualification from the Mainland did not meet the requirements for registration as a nurse in Macao. However, she was unwilling to give up her dream of nursing and decided to pursue further studies:
2016: Studied at Guangdong Medical College and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
2018: Studied in Guangzhou Medical University and graduated in 2020.
2018-2019: Completed the Fundamental Health Care Training Programme at Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau.
2017-2019: To attend the Macao First Aid Training Programme and become a First Aid Instructor of the Macau Red Cross School, and regularly participate in First Aid Volunteer Work to contribute to the society.
Fulfilling Dreams, Entering KWNC
She discovered the admission information of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau through her daughter's educational journey, and after a thorough assessment and selection process, she was thrilled to be admitted to the College as a full-time Bachelor student. Her dedication to self-improvement and perseverance has undoubtedly laid a solid foundation for her successful admission.

Her passion for public welfare has only grown stronger, and she has thrown herself into her studies with unbridled enthusiasm. The challenges she faced upon entering the College were just the kind of challenges she was born to tackle. From adapting to modern learning methods, like using tablet computers, to developing evidence-based and critical thinking skills, and grappling with course materials and examination papers written mostly in English, Hu Huiling has taken them in her stride. She has been actively seeking advice from her peers and searching for library materials, medical journals and online resources to enhance her professional competence.

Not only is she a dedicated student, but she's also a passionate volunteer! She's involved in all sorts of activities, like community visits and teaching programmes. She's been a real asset to her community since joining the management body of her current home  in 2021. She's now the Chairman, making a real difference to the living environment for the residents.
Gratitude and Continuous Progress
"I am thankful for being able to study at Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, for the wonderful teachers and classmates I met, and for being able to contribute to society in a small way," said Hu Huiling. She firmly believes that "There is nothing difficult in the world, as long as you are willing to climb." In the future, she will continue to study hard and improve herself to win honour for the College and contribute to society.

We are delighted to congratulate Hu Huiling on being awarded the title of 'Star of Self-Reliance of Chinese University Students'! We are excited to see her future achievements, including winning honour for the university, striving for her profession, contributing to society, and bringing positive energy to more people.
