Description | Dementia is one of the greatest challenges worldwide. According to a research of Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), the number of dementia population has reached 46.8 million in 2015, with one new case in every 3 seconds. It is expected that such population will have reached 131.5 million in 2050. Facing the same ageing problem in Macao, the population of dementia people is also increasing. According to the statistics of Macao, the population of residents aged 65 or above was 58,100 in 2015, occupying 9% of the total population. According to the researches of ADI and Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC), about 4,000 home-based older adults of Macao present early dementia symptoms. Facing the fact that dementia is becoming a critical issue in Macao, Social Welfare Bureau has commissioned KWNC to publish this booklet in order to enhance the general public's understanding of dementia, through which the awareness, early detection and caring skills of dementia can be intensified. |
