Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held Islands District Medical Complex Campus Open Day on 25th March and attracted around 700 participants. Various universities and secondary schools arranged for students to visit the teaching environment and experience nursing operations. Parents and students praised the event as fascinating and fruitful. They learnt about the training process of nurses, the meaning of life and first aid knowledge.
The Open Day activities were held from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. KWNC opened the Library, Life Journey Experience Pavilion, nursing laboratories, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre, teaching venues, facilities, and equipment for citizens to visit and experience.
Among them, the ‘Life Journey Experience Pavilion’ consists of five exhibition areas, including Embarking, Flourishing, Blossoming, Benevolence Glowing and Homecoming. Numerous Macao residents experienced painful process of simulated pregnancy and childbirth, conducted cognitive function screening, fall risk assessment and participated in multiple intelligence training activities during the Open Day.
In addition, parents reinforced parent-child relationship with their children through playing with a creative building block wall and interactive games together. Furthermore, the end-of-life experience was also impressive, participants could review their own life, which was very special.
Nursing laboratories and OSCE Centre are essential teaching venues for nursing study. There was a series of nursing skill operation demonstrations, such as sputum suction for oxygen supply, indwelling gastric tube, intravenous injection (IV), virtual anatomy learning system, high fidelity simulation model first aid and simulated clinical skills assessment. The public took this opportunity to learn about the brand-new and professional nursing teaching facilities and equipment of the College. In addition, citizens performed virtual IVs, blood draws, newborn baths and had maternity experiences with the assistance of nursing students.
The Open Day campus tour, health and further education lectures, admissions consultation, parent-child games, workshops, etc. were well received, attracting more than 700 attendees to visit the new campus. 13 universities and secondary schools organised for about 230 students, and ten social service organisations arranged for about 100 people to attend.
KWNC President Van Iat Kio expressed gratitude to Macao residents for their enthusiastic participation. Through the Open Day, the general public had a better understanding of nursing education, and she encouraged those who aspire to become nurses to apply for nursing courses.
The Life Journey Experience Pavilion is popular amongst the general public, the College has actively promoted it, and will carry out educational projects according to the plan.
