Risk Factor Analyses and Subtype Classification of Internet Addiction among Macao Youths
The subjects of this study were junior to senior high school students in Macao and their guardians. The study found that those who had experienced adverse life events in the past year, such as examination failure, being misunderstood, family conflicts, etc., and those who had low internet literacy, high stress perception, high social anxiety and low psychological well-being were more likely to be addicted to the internet. The most important factor in preventing internet addiction is family love and care. Based on the above influencing factors and characteristics of youth internet usage, the study has identified four subtypes of youth internet usage, and based on these subtypes, a testing platform has been set up, which is expected to be widely applied in schools in the future, so as to provide early targeted intervention based on the characteristics of youth internet usage, and to motivate schools and families to care about their minors' internet usage, so as to promote the healthy development of youth's mental and psychological well-being. The testing platform will be released for use by all schools and related organizations in due course.
